The Punjabi Society is one of the most active and vibrant societies at Imperial College and is to host the fifth Bhangra Showdown in aid of Lupus UK, Kenyan Orphan Project and the Sankara Eye Foundation.

The Bhangra Showdown is the UK's only national inter-university Bhangra Competition! The show has grown from strength to strength since December 2007 and hosts teams with ever growing talent in the art of Bhangra.

The event brings together teams from all over the country to perform in front of a distinguished panel of Judges and a crowd of thousands to be crowned Number 1 Student Bhangra Team in the UK

2011
Bringing the show to its biggest and most prestigious venue yet, at HMV Hammersmith Apollo, 10 teams battled it out for the ultimate prize.

A sell out 3300+ seated crowed saw the teams raise the bar on the standard of Bhangra even further. The top 3 couldn't have ranked much closer in terms of points, and here's how they ranked:

1. Birmingham
2. Imperial College
3. Brunel

The fourth installment of The Bhangra Showdown had plenty of surprises with an electrifying opening from Paragon Dhol Academy, surprise performances from Foji Gill and Shin DCS as well as a live P.A. from Angrej Ali

2010
Yet another sell out crowd attended the most highly contested competition to date at the world renowned London Palladium. Kings College returned in a bid to reclaim their 2007 title. There were only a few points separating the top 3 places, and here's how the top 3 ranked:

1. Imperial College
2. Queen Mary and Barts
3. Brunel

Guest performances from included the Bhangra Legend Sukshinder Shinda with a surprise appearance from the Grewals, stars of the hit Channel 4 show: The Family.

 

2009
The second launch of The Bhangra Showdown was met with unprecedented support with a second successive sell out at Sadler's Wells.

With a mere few points separating first and second place, here's how the top 3 ranked:

1. Queen Mary and Barts
2. Imperial College
3. Birmingham University

Guest performances included Lehmber Hussainpuri and H-Dhami alongside lively host Kulvinder Ghir.

In its inaugural show held in 2007, The Bhangra Showdown attracted supporters in huge numbers at the Indig02.

record-label Bhangra artists Malkit Singh and Juggy D. As anticipated it was met with unparalleled support for its cause in aiding charities and increasing cultural awareness across the UK
